Dissecting the mechanisms of malignant transformation in del(5q) myelodysplastic syndrome to selectively target the disease-initiating hematopoietic stem cells

Project summary

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients have an increased risk of leukemia. This project investigates the mechanisms of malignant transformation of hematopoietic cells containing a del(5q) mutation.

This project will generate new knowledge that may lead to the development of novel drugs targeting MDS without affecting healthy hematopoietic cells, ultimately increasing the therapeutic window in leukemia.
