Sex and gender differences in the effectiveness and adoption of the combined lifestyle intervention
Project summary
Knee osteoarthritis is a joint disease that is associated with pain, stiffness and limitation of movement. There is a lot of attention for the importance of a healthy lifestyle for people with knee complaints and overweight. In the treatment no distinction is made between sex (biological differences) or gender (social expectations and norms). This distinction is important because there are differences between men and women, such as experiencing pain differently. Little is known about the influence of sex and gender on lifestyle choices or preferences for a lifestyle programme. Therefore, this project investigates the contribution of sex and gender to the effectiveness and acceptance of a lifestyle program in people with knee osteoarthritis and overweight
Impact
This gives us more insight into the role of sex and gender in the treatment of osteoarthritis and this project contributes to the realization of gender-sensitive care by raising awareness of the importance of gender differences.
