Identification of tumor-initiating cells in liver cancer and their interactions with hepatitis viruses
Project summary
Hepatitis virus annually infects half a billion people and causes more than 1 million deaths worldwide. This project investigates which liver cells are prone to transformation to tumor cells when exposed to hepatitis virus and why these cells are insensitive to drug treatment.
Impact
This project will provide new insights on the type of cells that cause liver cancer, ultimately leading to the development of novel therapies and prevention of liver cancer in hepatitis virus-infected patients.
