More than skin deep

Project summary

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a skin disease which causes painful boils in intimate body areas. It has a massive impact on quality of life –even more than having a stroke– and there is no cure. HS patients also frequently have Crohn’s disease (severe gut inflammation). We will explore the novel idea that T cells –a type of immune cell– might migrate between skin and gut driving the occurrence of both diseases within the same patient.

We will search for a common trigger that activates these T cells in both tissues, providing opportunities for new effective treatments for these debilitating diseases.
